My EZGO golf cart BMS keeps showing faults and and is not working correctly

I’ve been pulling my hair out over this. My EZGO golf cart keeps showing these annoying BMS faults. I need some help please.

Response

I had a similar issue with the BMS on my golf cart too. I remember my throttle was short circuiting, so you may want to check yours. However in the end, I had to buy a new BMS which has been operating great ever since!

  • Poor battery condition

Solutions that Worked

1. Switch to Lithium Batteries

Steps:

  1. Research and purchase lithium batteries compatible with your golf cart model.
  2. Turn off the golf cart and disconnect the old batteries.
  3. Remove the old batteries carefully, taking note of the wiring.
  4. Install the new lithium batteries, ensuring the wiring is correct.
  5. Turn on the golf cart to check if the new batteries are working properly.

Expert Tip:

If you’re looking to upgrade your golf cart’s performance, consider switching to lithium batteries. They are lighter, require less maintenance, and can offer better range.

Handy Tip:

Always wear gloves and eye protection when handling batteries to avoid any accidental spills or shorts.

2. Check the Voltage on the Throttle ITS

Steps:

  1. Turn off the golf cart.
  2. Locate the throttle ITS near the controller.
  3. Use a multimeter set to DC voltage to check the voltage coming to the controller.
  4. Compare the readings with the manufacturer’s specifications.
  5. If the voltage is within the specified range, the throttle ITS is likely not the issue.

Expert Tip:

Before jumping to conclusions about a faulty BMS, it’s wise to check the voltage on the throttle ITS coming to the controller. This can help isolate the issue.

Handy Tip:

Always turn off the golf cart before performing any electrical tests to avoid short circuits.

3. Replace the BMS

Steps:

  1. Consult your golf cart’s manual to identify the location of the BMS unit.
  2. Turn off the golf cart and disconnect the battery.
  3. Remove the old BMS unit by unscrewing it and disconnecting the wires.
  4. Install the new BMS unit, making sure to connect the wires correctly.
  5. Screw the new BMS unit into place.
  6. Reconnect the battery and turn on the golf cart to test the new BMS unit.

Expert Tip:

If you’ve experienced similar issues before and they recur, consider replacing the BMS. Make sure to consult your dealer for warranty coverage.

Handy Tip:

Label the wires before disconnecting the old BMS to make the installation of the new unit easier.
