How do I adjust my Callaway Big Bertha Hybrid

Callaway Big Bertha 2015 Hybrid, Big Bertha 2019 Hybrid and Big Bertha Alpha 815 hybrid are adjusted using the OptiFit hosel. The hosel allows for eight adjustment settings for both loft and lie angles.

Big Bertha 2015 Hybrid

This hybrid has a low and deep center of gravity. The club is designed to provide increased distance with fast ball speed and high launch. The sidespin is also reduced for straight shots. The center and off-center hits are quite fast with this hybrid.

Big Bertha 2019 Hybrid

This hybrid is forgiving and quite long, coupled with a stylish appearance. The club is easy to hit and renders a moderately loud sound at impact. It is made of high-strength steel alloy and is characterized by a Hyper Speed Face Cup. The weights can be repositioned for an optimized center of gravity.

Big Bertha Alpha 815 Hybrid

This hybrid with its highly forgiving nature because of the big tall face is ideal for golfers with low handicaps. The club features low trajectory and low spin along with minimal offset. It has a high toe that makes the club a good choice for playing on tricky lies. The club generates a metallic and high-pitched sound when there is an impact.

Adjusting Callaway Big Bertha Hybrid

  1. Turn the Callaway wrench in the anti-clockwise direction to loosen the clubhead screw and remove the head from the club shaft. Remove the head, which will expose 2 cogs/rings that can be rotated separately.
  2. You can set different positions by turning the rings. Once cog is used to adjust your loft. The other cog is used to set your desired lie angle.

You can subtract 1° and add up to 2° to the standard loft setting from the standard loft setting. You can also change the lie settings between neutral (N) and draw (D). The neutral setting is to hit the ball straight. The draw setting minimizes slicing to correct the shot.

  • Set to +1 to hit a little higher and increase the spin.
  • Set to +2 for more flight and maximum spin.
  • Set to -1 to decrease the flight and spin.
  1. Replace the head and turn the wrench in the clockwise direction to tighten the clubhead screw until you hear a click sound. Don’t tighten the screw more than necessary. It’ll damage the club.

The clubface of the hybrid closes when the loft is increased. Players find that this setting results in high spin and less ball speed, thereby lowering the efficiency. When the loft is decreased, the clubface opens paving way for low spin and high ball speed.

Callaway Big Bertha Hybrid Adjustment

How to adjust Callaway Big Bertha 2015 hybrid

Callaway Big Bertha 2015 hybrid stays true to Big Bertha’s concept of providing more distance and forgiveness to the players.

  • Big Bertha comes with an OptiFit hosel that allows eight settings to adjust the loft and lie angles.
  • The club is available in five lofts, 19° to 31°.
  • The 28° and 31° (6H and 7H) clubs are available only for right-handed players.
  • It has a swing weight of D0.

The adjustment of the Callaway Big Bertha 2015 hybrid can be done as follows.

  1. Use a wrench to unscrew the head from the club shaft. Callaway doesn’t provide a wrench with this model. You’ll have to use the most appropriate one that doesn’t damage the screw head.
  2. Remove the head to adjust the cogs and align the markings on them. Turn the screw in the anticlockwise direction to do this. The loft and lie settings are available on both cogs in the hybrid models.
  • Set to D, -1, N, or +2 on the top cog.
  • Set to D, S, N, or +1on the bottom cog.
  • D and N cannot be aligned on both the cogs at a time.
  1. Put the head back and turn the screw in the clockwise direction. Stop when you hear a click sound.

The center of gravity (CG) is low and deep, resulting in an increase in the launch angle. It also ensures that the club doesn’t twist from the impact of the shot and create unnecessary side spin.

Big Bertha hybrids are known for adjustability, high forgiveness, and faster ball speeds. The distance may suffer a little due to the spin, but the shots will be straight and consistent throughout.

The hybrid will have less distance than with the stated loft when the loft value is increased.

Also, the elevation is more. The launch is lower when the loft is decreased and results in less spin.

How to adjust Callaway Big Bertha 2019 hybrid

Compared to previous models, the Big Bertha 2019 hybrid has a shorter and lighter adjustable OptiFit hosel to deliver a powerful performance on the greens.

  • It is long, highly forgiving, and adjustable.
  • It comes with Jailbreak technology that ensures more energy is retained in the face.
  • The face is an ultra-thin Carpenter 455 that increases the speed of the shot.
  • The clubs are available in six lofts, ranging from 18° to 33°.

The OptiFit hosel has two independent cogs with markings on them to set the loft and lie settings. You can get a total of eight settings by adjusting the cogs and aligning the markings. The loft settings are denoted by -1, S (stated loft), +1, and +2. The lie settings are denoted by N for neutral and D for Draw.

The Big Bertha 2019 hybrid can be adjusted as follows.

  1. Use the wrench provided by Callaway to unscrew the head from the club. Turn the screw in the anticlockwise direction to remove the head.
  2. Set the desired loft and lie angle using the two cogs.
  3. Ensure that the two cogs are aligned properly.
  4. Place the head back on the club shaft and turn the screw in the clockwise direction to fix the head.
  5. Stop turning when you hear a click sound.

The Big Bertha 2019 hybrid has been designed for high handicap players. However, the club is suitable for any player as it can do what the golfer wants. It does take some time to get the shots the way you want. Spend time getting used to it and adjust the settings to make the most of it.

The driver is best suited to play a draw when its loft is increased. The draw is maximum when the loft is at the highest value and the lie angle is set to D. In contrast, the Bertha hybrid helps with fades better when its loft is reduced.

How to adjust Callaway Big Bertha Alpha 815 hybrid

Similar to the Big Bertha 2019 hybrid, the Alpha 815 also has Hyper Speed Face Cup in the face to increase the ball speed.

  • Big Bertha Alpha 815 hybrid has been designed to provide golfers with complete control over the ball’s trajectory.
  • The center of gravity has been optimized to a low and forward position.
  • The club comes in three lofts, 18°, 20° and 23° and has the trademarked OptiFit Hosel with adjustable loft and lie settings.

Clubs with OptiFit hosel follow similar steps to adjust the loft and lie settings.

You can set any of the eight settings available for the OptiFit hosel.

  1. Use the wrench to turn the screw in the anticlockwise direction.
  2. Remove the head from the club shaft.
  3. Increase or decrease the stated loft and set the lie angle to Draw or Neutral with the two rotatable cogs.
  4. Place the head back on the club shaft and turn the screw in the clockwise direction until you hear the click sound.

Big Bertha Alpha 815 hybrid has two movable weights located in the heel and toe. One weighs 0.035 oz (1 gram), and the other weighs 0.276 oz (7 grams).

  • The weights can be interchanged to power your shots.
  • Use the heavier weight in the heel for more draw bias.
  • Place the lighter weight in the heel for fade bias.

The club helps correct the ball’s spin, improve the trajectory, and increase the speed and distance of the shot.

Golfers who want the ball to go really high without covering much distance must consider increasing the loft. In contrast, if distance is of prime concern, they will be able to gain some extra yards with a low loft.
