My EZGO Golf Cart Only Runs at Full Throttle and I don’t know why!

I’m at my wit’s end here. My EZGO golf cart only wants to run at full throttle, and it’s causing me great difficulty. I’ve tried a few things, but nothing seems to work. Anyone else had this issue and found a fix?

Response

I would stary with adjusting the set screw and jamb nut on the carb throttle blade did the trick for me.

  • No speed control whatsoever
  • Speed is inconsistent and unpredictable

Possible Causes

  • Throttle sensor malfunctions
  • Carburetor adjustments gone wrong
  • Electrical wiring issues

Solutions that Worked

1. Reconnect Disconnected Wire

What I Did:

Located and reconnected a wire that had come loose from pin 5 of J1 on the controller to the B+ on the solenoid.

Outcome:

The cart ran at full speed consistently.

Personal Experience:

After reconnecting this seemingly insignificant wire, my buggy was back to running at full speed all the time.

Estimated Cost:

$0

Time Needed:

10-20 minutes

Steps:

  1. Turn off the golf cart and disconnect the battery for safety.
  2. Open the compartment where the controller is located.
  3. Identify pin 5 of J1 on the controller.
  4. Locate the disconnected wire.
  5. Reconnect it to the B+ terminal on the solenoid.
  6. Reconnect the battery and turn on the golf cart to test.

Expert Tip:

Always check for disconnected or loose wires when troubleshooting. A simple loose wire can cause significant issues.

Handy Tip:

Use a multimeter to check for continuity in the wire before reconnecting it.

2. Adjust the Set Screw and Jamb Nut on the Carb Throttle

What I Did:

Located and adjusted the set screw and jamb nut on the carb throttle blade.

Outcome:

The cart worked like a charm.

Personal Experience:

After making this small but crucial adjustment, my cart was back to running smoothly without going full throttle unexpectedly.

Estimated Cost:

$0

Time Needed:

10-20 minutes

Steps:

  1. Turn off the golf cart and disconnect the battery for safety.
  2. Locate the carburetor, usually found near the engine.
  3. Identify the set screw and jamb nut on the carb throttle blade.
  4. Loosen the jamb nut slightly.
  5. Adjust the set screw to control the throttle.
  6. Tighten the jamb nut back into place.
  7. Reconnect the battery and turn on the golf cart to test.

Improper adjustment of the set screw and jamb nut can lead to erratic behavior in your golf cart’s speed. Always make sure they are properly adjusted.

Handy Tip:

Use a flat-head screwdriver for better control while adjusting the set screw.
