What this means on the course

The Laser uses a single published tolerance of ±1 yd rather than separate short- and long-range accuracy bands.

Repeatability is how closely repeated readings agree when you aim at the same target.

Readout precision is how finely the number is displayed. Fine display increments do not automatically mean the laser is accurate to that same increment.

What can affect the reading?

Small or low-reflectivity targets are harder to isolate than large bright objects, especially when there is background clutter.

Bright sun, mist, rain and target angle can make acquisition less consistent even when the device is functioning normally.

If a number looks implausible, re-range the same target from the same position before treating it as a calibration problem.

Laser accuracy troubleshooting

Pin / nearest-target mode does not confirm the flag

Sweep slowly across the flag or flagstick. Target-confirmation feedback helps identify the intended target; it is not a separate accuracy measurement.

Repeated readings differ slightly

Keep the same aim point and take several readings. Small variation inside the published tolerance can be normal; a large repeatable offset is more meaningful.

Yards and metres seem mixed up

Check the unit setting. 100 yd is about 91.4 m, so a unit mix-up creates an error far larger than normal laser tolerance.

Long-range reading is difficult to obtain

At longer range the target occupies less of the view and target reflectivity, hand movement and background clutter matter more.
